Magical Journey’s Summer Programs

Art Explosion

A week into the world of art. Students will learn all about different art forms, while practicing different techniques and creating incredible pieces of work. Different techniques and mediums will be used to create age appropriate creations. The week will be literature based and include stories and concepts that coincide with the art theme. Whether it is tissue paper, painting, tagboard or canvases, students will highlight their skills. Some sample activities include: puzzle piece creations, squiggle drawings, paper spirals, mosaics, milk jug masks and scavenger hunts. Our week will culminate with a guest artist, Shari Keith who created a masterpiece with the students.

Game On

We are getting physical this week! A literature-based week that incorporates ways to be active. We will be practicing good sportsmanship, learning to create games and practice playing fair. Sample creations will include paper plate Frisbees, board games, parachute, marble racers and lots of minutes to win it challenges. We will have Amazing Athletes Inc coming each day to enhance the program and teach the children all about being a great athlete.

Culinary Arts

This is the perfect week for food fanatics. While using food based literature we will dive into the world of creating food. Along with making yummy, age appropriate snacks, children will have lots of time to play with food. We will practice painting with food items like celery, spices, bread and tortillas. Playing with marshmallows and patterns will get the children excited. Children will play a version of Chopped, putting together meals and snacks in a fun-filled competition. The week will include a visit from Lunchkins.

Local Pride

This week is all about Arizona. Along with state mottos, trademarks, interesting facts and destinations, children will get an understanding of culture and the history of Arizona. Using Arizona based literature; children will hear stories of Arizona and the people that have lived here. Projects for the week include clay pot snakes, state art work, and mosaics. We will play games like desert animal charades and state bingo. Mrs. Collins will be our guest for the week and will tell us about the Spanish influences to Arizona.

Prep for Success

This week gets us ready to start a new school year! We will learn all about Growth Mindset. Children will learn the main concepts of Growth Mindset: how to exercise your brain, it’s ok to make mistakes, there are things you don’t know “yet,” and perseverance is key. We will play games that incorporate team building, cooperation and fun. Mrs. Graber will join us each day to lead an exciting lesson reinforcing these concepts.

STEM

This week is all about getting minds together to design, create and build. Using STEM based literature, children will use a variety of resources and materials to become junior engineers. Children will use marshmallows to create structures and catapults made out of craft sticks and rubber bands. Balloon rockets, tin foil boats and pool noodle structures are a few of the amazing projects that will be created. Students will use their minds to explore the world of engineering. The Mad Scientist will be coming to do an activity with the group.

Recycling

A full week of learning about how to save our planet. Using literature, children will realize how powerful recycling is for our community. Using recycled materials, we will create jewelry out of beads and clips, piggy banks out of water bottles, and one of a kind artwork out of magazines. We will play the recycling game to reinforce the concepts of recycling and the benefits. We will melt used crayons and make them into new ones. Our guest artist, Shari Keith will come and show us how recycled items can become pieces of art.
